July Deals Update

Published on: 7th July 2017 On the 1st April 2017 the new rating lists were published across England and Wales, from that date, businesses looking to challenge their business rates were required to do so through the HMRC’s Government Gateway. Once again we were particularly active in the North East with our agency team completing a number of deals including the purchase of a 15,800 sq ft warehouse in Crowther Industrial Estate by Anderson Beverage & Co, a leading supplier of dispensed soft drinks. Acting on behalf of NHS Property Services the team also sold the former Alma Street Health Centre, a 27,300 sq ft redevelopment opportunity to Thirteen Group, one of the region’s leading social housing groups.

Registered Property Receivers' Scheme

Published on: 6th July 2017 Property recovery work is a specialist area of insolvency, albeit, not subject to Government regulation. The Registered Property Receivers’ Scheme has been devised as a joint initiative between NARA (The Association of Property & Fixed Charge Receivers), the RICS (The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) & the IPA (The Insolvency Practitioners Association) so as to introduce independent regulation. Scheme members are required to adhere to voluntary codes of practice which means that lenders borrowers and other stakeholders can be confident that there is structured regulation.

Six new residential investments on the market in the North East

Published on: 30th June 2017 Our agency team has been appointed as agents on six, three bedroom residential investment properties across the North East. The five income-producing properties and one vacant property are located in towns throughout the region, with two in Durham, two in Darlington, one in Hartlepool and one in Morpeth. Changes in the way business rates are appealed

Published on: 29th June 2017 On the 1st April 2017 the new rating lists were published across England and Wales and from that date, businesses looking to challenge their business rates were required to do so through HMRC’s Government Gateway. One of the biggest changes to business rates following the 2017 Rating Revaluation was the introduction of the ‘Check, Challenge, Appeal’ in an attempt from the government to reform the rating appeal system. A key component of the new system is that it will be necessary for ratepayers to set up a secure Government Gateway account, add their properties and appoint an agent to act on their behalf by electronically managing the check, challenge and appeal process.

Anderson Beverage & Co purchase 15,800 sq ft warehouse in Washington

Published on: 28th June 2017 Anderson Beverage & Co, a leading supplier of dispensed soft drinks, has purchased a warehouse in Crowther Industrial Estate in Washington. The 15,800 sq ft warehouse, which is located on the corner of Tilley Road, was sold freehold to the beverage company by our North East agency team, who acted on behalf of Ronan Engineering. Darren Naylor, industrial agent in our North East team commented, “This is a fantastic warehouse and we are delighted to have secured the sale for Ronan Engineering. With such excellent transport links, we are seeing a huge amount of demand for both leasehold and freehold properties in the Washington area, and hope to see more deals in the near future as a result of that.”

Thirteen Group purchase former Stockton Health Centre

Our North East agency team sold the former Alma Street Health Centre, located off Alison Street, on behalf of NHS Property Services, for an undisclosed price. Co-operative group estates surveyor benefits from APC training

Published on: 22nd June 2017 Last year we launched an initiative to help staff within our clients and partner organisations in becoming full members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) by helping them pass the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). Under the scheme, experts from across our offices offer training and mentoring to provide the knowledge they need to pass the APC training. Candidates prepare for the assessment by taking part in mock interviews and receiving advice from the firm on presentation and interview skills. Katie Hicklin, estates surveyor at the Co-operative Group, has also recently benefited from our mentoring scheme and successfully passed her APC in April this year. We assisted Katie through the process including providing guidance and a mock assessment prior to her APC. Katie commented, “The mentoring and training provided by Sanderson Weatherall was incredibly helpful in enabling me to gain my full qualification”.
