Commercial Christmas decorations worth £180,000 up for grabs at auction

The Christmas decorations, worth £180,000 in total, is the remaining stock from JB Display Services Ltd, which has gone into liquidation. Andrew Cromack, valuer in our auctions team, said: “It’s not very often you see a sale in this niche industry so it’s very exciting . The lots are a fantastic opportunity for any businesses in the events or seasonal industries.”

Business Rates Budget Highlights 2017

Published on: 8th March 2017 The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond gave his first budget to Parliament last week. The Chancellor acknowledged the concerns surrounding business rates but declared that they could not be abolished as he announced changes that will equal a further £435million cut in business rates. Key business rates highlights Business rates will not be abolished but the Chancellor suggested that there would be another consultation on business rates, to find a way of suitably taxing the digital economy. A cap will be put in place for businesses moving from the small business rates relief that will ensure that their monthly business rates bill does not increase by more than £50 per month.

Greater Exeter Strategic Plan

Published on: 8th March 2017 East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon and Teignbridge, in partnership with Devon County Council, are working together, engaging with stakeholders and communities, to prepare a new joint plan. By working together, the aim of the plan is to provide an overall spatial strategy and level of housing and employment land to be provided up to 2040. This will include looking for additional sites to accommodate more than the 2,500 new homes per annum currently being provided for in existing Development Plans up to 2033.

New guidance published for minimum energy efficiency standards

Published on: 3rd March 2017 The government has recently published guidance for landlords on new regulations that will prohibit the letting of buildings that fail to meet minimum energy efficiency standards. The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) come into force in April next year and mean that all properties that fall below an EPC rating of E will become impossible to market unless upgraded to meet the minimum standards. With just over a year until the rules are introduced, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has clarified further how the regulations will be implemented.
