CeX Ltd move into store on one Newcastle’s most popular retail streets

Leading European electronics store, CeX, has taken 1,377 sq ft of space on Northumberland Street, a major shopping street in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The national retail chain specialises in the buying and selling of DVDs, video games and digital devices, and have 350 stores around the UK.

They have acquired the Northumberland Street unit on a 10-year lease, and following completion of their impressive fit out, are now open for business.

In Q2 the Leeds office market demonstrated its resilience in the face of an uncertain economic climate, posting improved take-up compared to both the preceding quarter and equivalent period last year. View our full Leeds office market update for Q2 2017, here. 

Following this strong quarter our Leeds agency team were pleased to complete a number of deals in July. Deals included the letting of 900 sq ft of office space at York Place to Grant Fieldhouse, the specialist property consultants.

Our office agency team in Leeds also completed the letting of a 3,500 sq ft office at Three Leeds City Office Park to ADT Fire and Security, the letting brings the 69,500 sq ft building to full occupancy. Lastly, the Leeming Building in Leeds has welcomed seven new businesses following an extensive refurbishment, with a total of 70% of the space either let or under offer.

On the other side of the Pennines our Manchester machinery and business assets team have been instructed by the joint administrators of Pulse Flexible Packaging Limited to offer for sale a comprehensive range of high quality packaging production equipment at auction.

Total Newcastle office market take up, including out of town take up, stood at nearly 130,000 sq ft, which was better than expected but reflected a slower market than in the previous quarter with some hesitancy caused by political uncertainty.

In the city centre take up stood at 41,105 sq ft across 7 transactions. A small increase on Q1 2017 with the most significant letting being Eldon Insurance acquiring 21,261 sq. ft at St James Gate. The deal takes out the remainder of the vacant space within that office development, showing its popularity close to the Central Station.

At Gateshead Quays, Northern Gas and Power acquired an additional floor within Baltic Place of circa 9,500 sq. ft.

In the out of town market take up was below the previous quarter at 88,190 sq ft across 22 transactions. The principal transactions were a letting to Northumbria Water negotiated by Sanderson Weatherall on behalf of Hilford Developments at 26,000 sq ft at Spectrum 5 taking occupancy at Spectrum Business Park, Seaham to 75%.

In the City of Sunderland, the Tombola Group are building their own headquarters at Wylam Wharf comprising circa 25,500 sq ft.
