South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Appointment

We have been appointed by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to assist and advise on a range of property matters.

The transport body is responsible for the co-ordination of public transport in South Yorkshire including buses, trains and the tram network, and operates several key transport facilities including the Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham and Meadowhall Interchanges. SYPTE is the owner of the Supertram system.

SYPTE also owns and operates Park and Ride schemes across South Yorkshire, and secures the provision of socially necessary bus services that are not provided commercially including services to employment sites, rural communities and early morning, evening and Sunday services.

Our Leeds team, led by Corporate Real Estate partner Andrew Ellis, have been appointed to undertake a range of property services for SYPTE, including valuation and rating, estates management, building consultancy, landlord and tenant services, and general support on property matters.

We will also act on projects such as land acquisitions and disposals and compulsory purchase orders, should this be required.  The appointment is for an initial term of three years with options for a further two years. The commission commenced in January 2016.

Commenting on the new contract, SYPTE’s principal solicitor and secretary, Steve Davenport, said: “Our property requirements are diverse and cover a wide regional area with some unique requirements and projects likely to arise in the course of the next few years.  We need an agency with knowledge of the area and our network, with the ability to deliver a range of services – all of which we know Sanderson Weatherall can provide. We hope that this partnership will help the Sheffield City Region deliver some of its key strategic transport objectives”

The appointment comes at a crucial time for South Yorkshire, after the Chancellor signed a devolution deal for the Sheffield City Region which paves the way for an elected mayor and gives the region access to funding to invest in improvements.
