We have recently expanded our architecture department with the appointment of Stephen Richardson as partner.
Stephen brings 10 years of industry experience to the position with particular specialisms in mixed use masterplanning; new build commercial and residential development; and creative reuse of existing building stock.
He joins our already established architectural team and will be instrumental in further developing the firm’s offer in all aspects of architectural consultancy from concept to completion.
Commenting on his new role Stephen said: “Sanderson Weatherall is well-known for its building consultancy offer, and as a specialist department within a multi-disciplined firm SW architecture has a distinct offer over its competitors. I am very much looking forward to further developing this strong reputation and creating an outstanding architectural practice offering our clients advice and consultancy on all aspects of design and development.”
Stephen will be located in our Newcastle office on Grey Street, in Newcastle city centre, where we boast a strong portfolio of architecture clients and a high level of expertise both in design and technical solutions.
Recent completed projects include the refit of Greggs’ new head office at Quorum Business Park in Newcastle, the development of the Alan Shearer Centre for St Cuthbert’s Care in Ponteland and a multi-million pound research and development facility and high quality office accommodation for DePuy in Leeds.

Greggs initially appointed our architecture team in 2014 to design a modern, innovative new office space which would relocate the company’s employees in the region into a modern business hub. Our architecture team worked closely with our office agency team to confirm Greggs requirements could be accommodated within the Q9 building.
Our distinct integrated collaborative approach enabled Greggs to secure a new main office which our architects designed to exactly match the company’s needs.
Quorum Business Park was selected due to its prime location, excellent transport links and close proximity to Greggs’ existing Innovate and Arcadia offices and its Balliol and Gosforth production centres. Our integrated turnkey service will also see us project manage the design and construction process.
Commenting on the head office relocation, Ashley Ritchie, group property manager at Greggs, said: “We have worked with Sanderson Weatherall for many years, so we knew that we could trust them with a project of this magnitude and have confidence in their ability to deliver it.
“The integrated approach that the firm provides meant that we benefitted from a powerful combination of creative thinking, energy and practical advice throughout. We are pleased with the terms of the acquisition negotiated by Sanderson Weatherall and excited to see the office designs becoming a reality.”
Head of commercial agency, Robert Patterson, identified and negotiated the acquisition on behalf of Greggs, whilst Lee Sanderson, head of our national architecture team, designed the new office fit-out. Building consultancy associate partner, Victoria Bollands, will assist architecture with co-ordinating the refurbishment.
Commenting on the Greggs relocation instruction, Robert Patterson said: “We are very proud of our longstanding partnership with Greggs and extremely pleased to have assisted the business with its head office relocation.
“Greggs is an iconic North East brand, so for us to be involved in a project that will help the business continue to evolve is something that gives us all a huge degree of satisfaction. We wish Greggs’ head office staff all the very best in their outstanding new home.”
Quorum’s on-site amenities include tennis courts, a seven-a-side football pitch and a boules court, a children’s nursery, shops and a restaurant. Around 500 trees have been planted and quiet garden areas and piazzas with fountains and benches are located throughout.
The Hub, Quorum’s occupier centre, offers pool bikes, a commuter centre and a car share scheme. It also organises barbeques, social and sporting events with over 300 on-site events each year.
Fergus Trim, development director at Quorum Business Park, said: “Greggs’ arrival is outstanding news for Quorum and testimony to the excellent environment we have created here for people to work and relax in.
“Throughout the acquisition and design process the Sanderson Weatherall team have been professional, diligent and thoughtful. The team’s detailed knowledge of Greggs and their vision for what our Q9 building could offer their client meant that all parties were able to work together in partnership to complete the acquisition.”

Our building surveying team will give you a detailed understanding of the condition of the property you are planning to buy, or rent, or already own.[fulltext] =>
We provide several different types of building surveys, (each of which can be tailored to suit your requirements) including:
- Pre-acquisition surveys – an analysis and quantification of potential risks to the building you are about to purchase or rent
- Technical due diligence – a detailed technical analysis of the property you about to purchase or rent, currently own or rent, including full ananlysis of any related legal, statutory and construction documents;
- Pre-divestment surveys – an analysis of the existing building you are about to dispose of, which may be transferred to any purchaser that acts to speed up your property sale
When looking for a new property, a building survey will ensure you know of any defects to the building before entering into a contract and the costs of remedying any disrepair.
Working with us also allows you to plan ahead, taking into account any extra costs that may be require allocating to satisfy any key defects, repairing liabilities, legal or regulatory obligations and give you long term knowledge on the costs of the property’s maintenance during your ownership.
