Commercial property owners urged to check EPC rating

Published on: 7th November 2017 Commercial property owners in England and Wales have just over fourth months to check their property’s EPC rating and secure an energy efficiency rating of E or above. Due to the new minimum energy standard, as of 1 April 2018 landlords will not be able to let commercial premises or renew leases if the EPC rating is lower than an E. David Fairley, partner in our building consultancy team and accredited non-domestic energy assessor, considers the potential impact for commercial landlords and possible ways forward in improving the energy performance of their buildings. David commented, “Some estimates suggest that over 50% of EPCs completed in the early years are incorrect. Over the last few years, we have come across a number of inaccurate EPCs, particularly those carried out between 2008 and 2011. With EPC’s needing to be renewed every ten years, or at the point of the next leasing event, some landlords might be in for a surprise from 2018.

One of the UK's largest private collections of military vehicles to be sold by online auction

Published on: 3rd November 2017 One of the largest private collections of wheeled and tracked military vehicles, along with spares and memorabilia of over 500 lots is due to be sold by online auction, with bidding closing from 10am on Wednesday 6th December. Our machinery and business assets team has been instructed by private collector Melvin Cordwell to offer for sale the extensive collection, due to his retirement and following the sale of the Collop Gate Farm premises.

77 touring caravan pitches permitted in Carmarthenshire

Published on: 2nd November 2017 Our planning team has obtained two separate planning permissions for an additional 77 touring caravan pitches at Gateway Resort, Carmarthenshire. Gateway Resort is an award winning touring and camping site located to the south of Bynea. With a direct link to the Millennium Coastal Path and overlooking the Loughor Estuary and Gower Peninsular the resort is a popular leisure destination in its own right. The park comprises an indoor heated swimming pool, a number of play areas and a large bar and restaurant area, which hosts a number of events throughout the year.

November Deals Update

Published on: 1st November 2017 During October it was announced that from April 2018 business rates bills will be set to increase by 3.9%, causing the total rates bill to increase by over £1.1billion, with the retail sector alone facing increases of over £300million.  Associated Security Systems Ltd, a security systems supplier in Manchester, purchased a 32,000 sq ft industrial unit in Greengate Industrial Estate, Rochdale. The property was sold by our Manchester corporate recovery team who were acting on behalf of the administrators of Reynards (UK) Limited.

Business Rates Bills to increase by 3.9% from April 2018

Published on: 27th October 2017 Since last year the Retail Prices Index (RPI) has almost doubled, from 2% in September 2016 to 3.9% in September 2017, on figures released by the government on 17th October. The RPI is an index that shows the changes in the cost of living throughout the UK and each year business rates are adjusted using the index to generate the Uniform Business Rates Multiplier, which helps determine how much businesses pay.

Large industrial unit sold in Middleton

The industrial property, which is located in Greengate Industrial Estate, was sold by our Manchester corporate recovery team, acting on behalf of the administrators of Reynards (UK) Limited.
